We’re headed toward June, and temperatures in San Jose are already warm. Summers in California are beautiful, but they can be very hot. If you’re looking at your energy bill and dreading its rise, we have some tips to help you keep it down. Read our next few blogs to see which ones are possible for you!
Use your thermostat wisely
- When you are away, keep your house warmer than normal. When you get home, lower the temperature to a comfortable level. That way, your system isn’t spending your money when you’re not there to enjoy the benefits. If you have a programmable thermostat, it is your best friend here! You can program it to start cooling your home a few minutes before you get there.
- Don’t set your thermostat extra low in order to cool off faster. It will take the same amount of time to bring the temperature down, and you will end up wasting money on excessive cooling.
- Keep your thermostat as high as you can and still be comfortable. Keeping the indoor temperature as close as possible to the outdoor temperature will save you money.
Use your windows
- It still gets reasonably cool at night here, so go ahead and turn off your A/C and open your windows when the sun goes down. In the morning, you can close the windows and the blinds to trap the cool air. This will also keep the air inside your home as fresh as possible, which makes it more comfortable.
